How To Get There

Heading to Wrexham test centre for the first time doesn’t have to be a trial by fire. Instead of winging it, or trying to use road signs, why not make things easier on yourself? Just use these handy directions with a sat nav—no fuss, no muss.

A Bit More About Wrexham

During your driving test, your examiner will take you around an even mix of busy urban roads, residential roads and challenging road types like roundabouts. Given the test centre’s proximity to the town centre, it’s likely that you’ll begin your test route there. This means that you’ll likely face heavy traffic, regardless of when you take the test, so keep your eyes peeled for potential hazards.

There’s a wide variety of A roads nearby, like the A483 and A534, so be prepared to switch between different speed systems and keep an eye on your speedometer. Depending on the manoeuvre you’re asked to demonstrate, you could be directed towards a local car park near Wrexham, or a quieter, residential area like Garden Village.

Wrexham Test Pass Rates

There’s one thing all learners have in common (beyond their goal of achieving their full licence) and that’s their interest in driving test pass rates. That’s why we keep an eye out for the DVSA’s latest stats, so we can include them in our guides!

On a general scale, learners in the UK currently have a 45.9% chance of passing their practical. This rate takes a dip at Wrexham test centre, as you can see in the table below. Don’t worry too much about it though—it’s all down to your individual effort on the day of your test, not the test centre’s pass rates.

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20

What If I Can't Go To Wrexham?

Though Wrexham might be the only test centre in the county, it’s certainly not your only option! If you don’t mind heading slightly further afield, your closest alternatives are:

What To Expect On The Day

Give yourself a round of applause! You’ve gone from a complete beginner (who used to sob over gear changes) to a driving pro. That’s no mean feat! All that’s left now is for you to breeze through the driving test.

Unless you want your hard work to go to waste, check that you have your provisional before you leave—examiners are required to check them before tests, so you won’t be able to proceed without one. Also, get to Wrexham around ten minutes prior to your appointment.

Your driving test will then follow this simple format:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination
