If you’re heading to Greyfriars Business Park from the centre of Stafford, all you’ve got to do is get on the A34 and follow the road signs. It couldn’t be easier! Don’t worry if you’re not so conveniently located. The centre is in close proximity to major roads like the A518 and M6, making it easily accessible for learners coming in from all over Staffordshire. Not certain your sense of direction is up to snuff just yet? That’s fine. Get your trusty sat nav out and use these directions.

A Bit More About Stafford

Stafford test centre certainly gives driving examiners a mixed bag of road types and traffic conditions to put the skills of candidates to the test. The close proximity of the A34 means you’ll undoubtedly face a lot of traffic, not to mention quieter residential roads that will test your hazard perception and ability to manoeuvre around parked cars. If roundabouts are your kryptonite, we’d suggest giving them some more practice. With nearby ones on the A34 and on Grey Friars, it’s unlikely you’ll make it through your whole route without facing at least one.

Stafford Test Route

A few years ago, you’d likely be able to get your hands on your exact test day route. Nowadays, unfortunately, that is not the case. The DVSA doesn’t allow test centres to publish their routes. Of course, that doesn’t mean you have to go into your practical test completely blind. You can get an idea of which roads might feature on your route by watching videos of Stafford test routes on YouTube or by downloading our sample Stafford driving test routes. And if you’re taking lessons with a local instructor, they’ll have had you building up your driving skills and muscle memory on these very same roads.

Stafford Test Pass Rates

Driving test pass rates have always been a source of much interest for learner drivers. They always want to know what their chances are of passing their test. If you’re the same, you’ll be pleased to know that we like to compile pass rates. On a general scale, the UK averages out at a 45.9% pass rate. Looking for something a bit more specific? Learners taking the plunge at Stafford test centre have a pretty good chance of passing their driving test, with pass rates coming in higher than the national average. Of course, that’s not to say that you don’t have to put in any effort on your big day. Make sure you pay close attention to your instructor’s advice during lessons and try to iron out any of your bad habits before you take your test.

What If I Can’t Go To Stafford?

Desperate to get your hands on that perfect test date? It might be a good idea to look at more than one test centres to increase your chances. Fortunately, Staffordshire has plenty of test centres to choose from. The closest ones to Stafford are Stoke-on-Trent (Newcastle-Under-Lyme) and Lichfield.

What To Expect On The Day

So your big day is finally here. Deep breath! Just pretend it’s like any other driving lesson. The only difference, of course, being that your instructor won’t get involved if you do something wrong. Before you head out to the test centre, be sure to check you’ve got your provisional. If you’re taking your own car to the test, make sure you’re insured for your practical.

Get to Stafford test centre 10 minutes before your test is due to begin. Once it does start, it will follow this basic format:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

The test route will eventually come to an end once you’re back at Stafford test centre, at which point, the examiner will give you your result. Whether you’re successful or not, the examiner will offer you verbal and written feedback. Pay attention. Even if you come out with zero minors, everyone has some room to improve with their driving! If you pass, you’ll also get your very own test pass certificate.

But What If I Fail?

If you didn’t get your test pass certificate on your first attempt, don’t let it get you down too much. Trust us, you’re not the first learner driver to fail your test and you certainly won’t be the last. We’d recommend you take more lessons with your instructor and work specifically on the areas you accumulated the most faults in. That should do the trick!
