Practical Driving Test Centres in Medway

Driving lessons complete? Theory test in the bag? Great stuff! It’ll be time for the main event: the practical test. For learners in this area, the obvious location to take your driving test will be at the Gillingham driving test centre, which, lying in the middle of the Medway Towns, is a convenient location for candidates from Rainham to Strood. If, for some reason, you need to look further afield, the closest alternative test centre is in Maidstone.

Theory Test Centres in Medway

Medway’s learners are in a good position, as the area is home not only to a practical test centre, but a theory test centre as well. The local theory test centre can be found in Chatham, and is easily accessible by train from across Medway. Be sure to read our guide to preparing for theory test success before you head to the test centre—you can’t just hope for a guaranteed pass, after all!

Haven't taken your theory test yet?

Your lessons may be where you learn the practical side of driving a car, but your theory test provides the basis of the knowledge you need to be able to drive safely. It’s for this reason that the DVSA requires all learners to take their theory test before they can even book a practical. So, if you’re still without a theory test pass certificate, be sure to add a theory test onto your PassMeFast course when booking.

Driving Around Medway

No matter which of the Medway Towns you’re from, almost all learners in the local area will end up taking their test at the Gillingham test centre. As such, you’ll end up spending much of your lessons in Gillingham and the surrounding area, getting to grips with the local roads. But what can you expect here?

Map of Medway within Kent

For starters, you can expect to be taken on the two A roads that bound Gillingham—the A289, which runs along the coast to the north of the town, and the A2, which runs to the south and links Medway to both Dover and London. Expect to encounter mini-roundabouts, such as the one at the end of Barnsole Road, as well as car-lined residential areas on your test route. This means that hazard perception will be key on your drive!
