How To Get There

Heading to Alness test centre for the first time? If your supervisor has no idea where it is, and you’re shaky with using road signs, just use these directions with a trusty sat nav to avoid taking any wrong turns along the way.

A Bit More About Alness

Once your driving test starts, your examiner will direct you out of Teaninich Industrial Estate and guide you around the town centre. There are a couple of schools nearby, like Coulhill Primary, so you’ll want to keep your eye out for any changes to the speed limit. The roads will start to get a bit more compact as you head closer to Achnagarron, so pay close attention to your road positioning, especially if you’re dealing with oncoming traffic and parked vehicles.

In order to test your capabilities against different speed and traffic conditions, the examiner will direct you onto the nearby A9. Depending on the route, you could be guided towards Dingwall, which comes with its own challenging residential roads—potentially a good spot for a driving manoeuvre demonstration. Alternatively, you might be directed towards an area like Kildary.

There’s no way of knowing exactly what will show up on your test route, but as long as you’ve taken lessons with a DVSA-approved instructor, you should be more than prepared.
