How To Get There

If you’re heading to Farnborough test centre from the town centre, you won’t have to travel far. Simply follow the A325 and turn onto Government House Road to find the centre. If you’re located a bit further afield, the test centre is still accessible enough. Just get onto the A331, head towards the town centre and use the above directions. Alternatively, you can let your sat nav do all of the heavy lifting and calculate the best route with these directions.

A Bit More About Farnborough

If you want to get your full licence at Farnborough test centre, you’ll have to jump through a few hoops first. As the M3 is close by, you may have to prepare yourself for heavy congestion depending on the time your test is due to take place. (Don’t worry, though: the motorway itself won’t feature on your test). You’ll want to pay close attention to your speed and observations as you move from busy A roads like the A325 and A331 towards quieter residential areas—you don’t want to get caught out!

Farnborough Test Route

Trying to find Farnborough test routes to memorise for your practical test? Well, prepare yourself for a bit of disappointment: the DVSA no longer publishes test routes. As such, you won’t be able to get your hands on an exact one. You don’t have to go into your test blind, though. You can get an idea of what will show up by watching videos of Farnborough test routes on YouTube or by downloading our sample Farnborough driving test routes. You should also remember that if you’re learning with a local ADI, they’ll make sure that you know the roads of Farnborough like the back of your hand before your practical!

Farnborough Test Pass Rates

It’s not just driving test routes that learners obsess over, it’s also driving test pass rates. After all, who wouldn’t want to figure out what their chances of passing are? For learners in the UK, the average pass rate stands at 45.9%. If you’re heading to Farnborough test centre, however, you’ll find that your chances stand a bit higher—as you’ll see in the table below…

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
55.2% 54.3% 58.4% 54.0% 51.4%

Well, well, well! With pass rates well above the national average, there’s certainly nothing to complain about when it comes to Farnborough test centre. Of course, it’s important to note that even though Farnborough has decent pass rates, your success will hinge entirely on your personal performance on the day of your practical. So make sure you practise plenty beforehand!

What If I Can’t Go To Farnborough?

Learners situated in and around the Hampshire area are in luck—there’s a wide range of test centres to choose from. If Farnborough is no longer a viable option, your nearest options are Basingstoke or Guildford in the Surrey area.

What To Expect On The Day

It doesn’t matter how much you prepare for the driving test, it can often feel like you’re not 100% ready. If you’re feeling particularly nervous, we’ve got just the thing for you: 10 tips to help you relax before the driving test.

Before we get into the nitty gritty of what the driving test actually entails, we’ve got a couple of reminders for you. Firstly, make sure you’ve got your provisional licence before you leave for your test. Secondly, try to get to Farnborough test centre 10 minutes before your test is due to start.

Your practical will then follow this format:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

Your practical test will finally be at an end once you’ve parked back up at Farnborough test centre. You’ll have to be patient, though—the examiner will need to finish filling out their feedback on a sheet or in the driving test app. They will then give you your result. Make sure you pay attention here, as there’s always room for improvement when it comes to driving.

But What If I Fail?

As with any other test you’ve taken in the past, failure is always a possibility. Though it might be an upsetting experience at the time, it will certainly help motivate you to try harder on your next attempt. If you picked up quite a few major faults, it might be a good idea to try a refresher course. By doing so, you can rebuild your confidence and iron out those bad habits.
