A Bit More About Guildford

Guildford test centre is ideally located for driving tests. The industrial estate it’s situated in provides a constant stream of traffic and congestion—not great in normal driving, but it does allow an examiner to see how you perform under pressure! Local roads like the A25 and busier routes around the town centre also allow for enough variety in road conditions to put candidates through their paces on the test. Looking for more general information about Guildford itself? Check out the links below.

Guildford Test Route

The DVSA no longer publishes test routes in order to ensure that the driving test reflects real-world conditions and a learner’s driving ability. You can still get an idea of what might come up on your test by watching videos of Guildford test routes on YouTube or by downloading our sample Guildford driving test routes. If you’re taking lessons with an ADI, however, you’ll no doubt be familiar with most of the test route by the time you head in for your practical. After all, your instructor will know the area like the back of their hand—and they’ll take the time to show you around.

Guildford Test Pass Rates

If you’re anything like our other learners, you’re probably curious about how others fare on their driving tests. On a general note, the national average in the UK is 45.9%. If you’re wondering how age, location and gender impact pass rates, head on over to our guide to driving test pass rates. As for those at Guildford test centre, check out the stats from the last five years below.

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
46.4% 54.0% 52.7% 48.6% 50.2%

As with other test centres in Surrey, those heading to Guildford test centre don’t have much to complain about—pass rates have been above the national average in the last couple of years. Of course, sometimes it takes a few attempts to pass the driving test. So, don’t concentrate on the stats too much!

What If I Can’t Go To Guildford?

If Guildford test centre is no longer a viable option for you, or you’re just in need of a back-up, the closest alternatives are Chertsey and Ashford.

What To Expect On The Day

Panicking about your driving test? It doesn’t matter where in the UK you’re taking your test; it will follow the exact same structure. In terms of preparation, you need to arrive at Guildford 10 minutes early with your provisional. Your test will then consist of:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

The test route will eventually lead you all the way back to Guildford test centre. Once you’ve parked the car, you’ll be told the results of your test. Regardless of the outcome, you’ll be given a feedback sheet that will list any faults you made. If you’re successful in your endeavour, you’ll also be handed a test pass certificate—perfect for showing off to your friends.

But What If I Fail?

As with any other test, failing isn’t uncommon with driving tests. If you’re unlucky enough to have failed your test, you should take a close look at your feedback sheet—you can concentrate on the areas you accumulated faults in. If you’re eager to get back behind the wheel, PassMeFast can speed up the process by fast-tracking your test. We can even offer refresher courses.
