Arriving at Bolton Theory Test Centre

By public transport

Bolton theory test centre is easily accessible via bus, coach and train. It’s a nifty 15-minute walk from Bolton train station. On the other hand, if you plan on conserving most of your energy for the test itself, Queens Park stop (serving both buses and coaches) is a mere 1-minute walk away! You’ll find the test centre is also a similarly short walk from the Garside Street bus stop. Head over to the Bolton Council website for more specific information on public transport, including times and routes.

By car

Planning to drive to the test centre? No problem! Simply tap BL1 4AY into your sat nav and hit the road. If you’re coming from outside of town, it’s likely you’ll end up on the M61. If that’s the case, follow signs towards St Peter’s Way/A666, drive on to Spa Road and eventually turn into Queensbrook.

Parking

Unfortunately, Bolton theory test centre does not provide on-site parking. Thankfully, however, there are a couple of reasonably priced options nearby.  New Holder Street car park (BL1 4SN) charges £2 for 2 hours and is a short 4-minute walk to the centre. Alternatively, you could also use St Edmund Street car park (BL1 2JR), which is 8 minutes away but 50p cheaper—charging £1.50 for 2 hours.

Pass Rates by Year

Currently sitting just below the national average, Bolton’s pass rate has been slowly declining in recent years. This should make you all the more proud if you manage to pass first time here! Of course, the centre itself actually has very little to do with how likely you are to pass—everyone across the country is taking exactly the same test, after all. Make it your centre of choice and give their stats a boost!

Hotels

The early bird catches the worm, and if that worm is the theory certificate, an early start can be achieved by booking yourself into a nearby hotel the night before. Getting plenty of kip is a solid way to ensure you’ll be clear-minded and confident heading into the test. We’ve scoured the local area and highlighted some of the best options that are a short distance from the centre:

Holiday Inn Bolton Centre★★★★☆

At just under a 15-minute walk from the test centre, this centrally-located chain hotel offers fresh, clean rooms and excellent service. Let’s be honest, you know where you stand with a Holiday Inn. A sound choice for both convenience and comfort.

The Britannia Bolton Hotel★★★☆☆

Another great chain option, the Britannia is a 10-minute drive from the test centre and provides a range of perks like free WiFi, bright and airy décor and a restaurant serving a whole host of dishes sure to whet your appetite after an afternoon of revision. Opt for a room with a countryside view and you’ll enjoy the beautiful scenery of Rivington Pike right from your bed! Not bad at all for a 3 star hotel.

Travelodge Bolton Central River Street★★☆☆☆

Looking after the pennies? This Travelodge is a great choice if you’re simply wanting something cheap and cheerful. With an on-site restaurant and some free WiFi options available, they have everything you need for an enjoyable short stay. Plus, it’s only a 20-minute walk to where you’ll be taking the test. Winner!
