How To Get There

Heading to Weston-super-Mare test centre from the town centre? Congrats! It couldn’t be any easier. All you need to do is get onto Locking Road, turn onto Hildesheim Bridge and then, finally, turn onto Sunnyside Road. Don’t panic if you’re not centrally located. The test centre is close to the A370 and M5, so it’s easy enough to reach, no matter what direction you’re coming from. To make sure you don’t take a wrong turn, dig out your sat nav and follow these directions. (Not got your own sat nav? You’ll be sure to find the perfect model in our list of best budget sat navs!)

A Bit More About Weston-super-Mare

Once your test date rolls on by, it’s time for you to flex your newfound driving skills and prove to the examiner that you’re ready for that full driving licence. Your test route will incorporate the trickiest road types and features that Weston-super-Mare has to offer, so this will be challenging. The proximity of the A370 means that it will most certainly show up on your route—make sure you’re comfortable with roundabouts, as there’s a range of them scattered along this bustling A road. As you move closer to the town centre, you’ll start to encounter narrower roads that will require you to show great care with road positioning, speed and hazard awareness. Depending on the route, you’ll likely be taken to the roads close to Bournville or Ashcombe in order to demonstrate one of the driving test manoeuvres (and potentially an emergency stop).

Weston-super-Mare Test Route

Looking for your Weston-super-Mare test route so that you can try it out when practising with friends and family? We hate to break it to you, but the DVSA doesn’t publish its routes anymore. This means that you won’t be able to memorise anything in preparation for your practical. Believe it or not, this is a good thing. It stops you from wasting your time memorising routes that may or may not feature on your test, and instead pushes you to focus on improving your driving. If nerves are still an issue, however, you can dispel some of the mystery by watching videos of Weston-super-Mare test routes on YouTube. Alternatively, you can download our sample Weston-super-Mare driving test routes!

Weston-super-Mare Test Pass Rates

If you’ve got an interest in statistics, you’re in luck—so do we! The moment the DVSA releases its latest batch of driving test statistics, we’re on it, taking a deep dive into the numbers. Once we’ve done that, we put together our findings over on the PassMeFast blog. From why pass rates are higher at some test centres than others to the average number of attempts it takes to pass, we’ve got it all.

Of course, if you’re looking to keep things simple, we’ll stick to the basics. Those in the UK currently have a 45.9% chance of passing their test. As for those taking the plunge at Weston-super-Mare, check out the centre’s pass rates from the last five years in the table below...

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
51.6% 53.8% 55.0% 55.5% 54.0%

As far as pass rates go, Weston-super-Mare’s are pretty darn good. They’ve been well above the national average, so you’ve not got much to complain about if you’re heading here. Try not to get too carried away with the good news, though! The examiner won’t be looking at these numbers when they rate your performance in the test. So, focus your efforts on building up your muscle memory and driving experience. Trust us, it’ll pay off in the long run!

What If I Can’t Go To Weston-super-Mare?

There are plenty of nearby test centres for you to choose from. The closest options to Weston-super-Mare include Avonmouth or Brislington.

What To Expect On The Day

And so, the learner driver is one step away from, potentially, becoming a fully qualified driver. What exciting times we live in! Everything you’ve done in your lessons has led up to this final moment. It’s now time for you to flex those skills and impress the examiner with everything you’ve learned. No pressure!

No matter how excited you are to get going, take a few seconds to triple check that you’ve remembered to bring your provisional licence. If you forget it, you’ll have to cancel the test and lose the test fee too! Also, to make sure you’ve got time to park the car and meet the examiner, you need to get to Weston-super-Mare test centre 10 minutes before your appointment starts.

Your practical will follow this basic structure:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

Your 40 minutes of torment will finally be at an end once you’ve parked back up at Weston-super-Mare test centre. Give yourself a pat on the back. Regardless of the result, you’ve completed a driving test—that’s an incredible feat in and of itself! You’ll only need to wait a few minutes to get your result. Then, you’ll be given a complete breakdown of any faults you accumulated on a physical sheet or by email via the driving test app.

But What If I Fail?

No-one likes the idea of failing a test, especially if you’ve spent upwards of forty hours preparing for it. As you’ve probably gathered after looking at pass rates, however, plenty of learners fail their test. Instead of letting it derail your learning journey, however, you should concentrate on working on the areas you picked up faults in. Take a refresher course with a local ADI and you’ll be raring to go for your next test in no time!

If you want to avoid waiting weeks or even months for the next available test date, we’d recommend booking a fast-track practical test with PassMeFast. To get this sorted, give us a ring on 0333 123 4949, or contact us online.
