Hailing a cab or getting a lift to your theory test from a friend or relative? Life will be much easier if they have a sat nav. Simply give them the postcode SR1 1TZ, and pay attention to the directions.
The entrance to the theory test centre is a fairly unassuming door nestled between two sets of windows. Look out for the small white signs labelled ‘Pearson’, located just above and next to the door. Once you’ve made your way in, you’ll find the test centre on the second floor of the building.
As is the norm, the theory test centre does not provide on-site parking. This shouldn’t put you off being driven to the test, however, because there are some good alternatives nearby.
5 minutes away you can find the Sunniside car park (SR1 1UL). It contains 653 spaces and charges a pretty reasonable £2.60 for 2 hours of parking.
If you’re intent on pinching every penny, there is a slightly cheaper option available 7 minutes from the test centre. Have a look for High Street West car park (SR1 1TZ). This one only charges £1.80 for 2 hours of parking. The downside is that there are just 35 spaces, so you’ll need to cross your fingers that a space will be available when you arrive!
OK, so this part might not fill you with confidence in the Sunderland theory test centre. The pass rate had been steadily declining, but it now matches the national average. Before you set your sights on a different test centre, though, take into account that these figures don’t actually mean much for individual learners. All centres are putting on the same test, so where you take it shouldn’t have an impact on your result.

As soon as you have one booked (and maybe even a little before!), you should be researching what the theory test involves and the kind of things you need to study. Yes—study.
