The town of Corby sits in the north-eastern section of the county of Northamptonshire. It’s an increasingly popular place to reside, it would seem, as Corby boasts the fastest-growing population in England! We’re not sure if this has anything to do with the arrival of the local theory test centre in 2016, but that’s the landmark we’re going to be exploring in this guide!
Join PassMeFast as we provide a complete rundown of everything learners need to know about the Corby theory test centre. We’re covering pass rates, directions, local amenities and much, much more!

By public transport
The first thing you’ll notice when searching for this theory test centre is that it’s not exactly in the centre of town. From Corby train station it will take you around 6 minutes to drive to your theory test appointment.
If you have to use public transport to reach the test centre, it’s probably easier to catch a bus. Hop off at Charter Court bus stop and you have just a 1-minute stroll ahead of you to reach your final destination.
For a more detailed breakdown of the transport links serving this area, consult the Northamptonshire County Council website.
If you’re travelling to your theory test by car (driven by someone qualified, we hope!), use a sat nav to get the directions to NN18 8QT.
Getting dropped off and picked up from your theory test is all well and good, as long as the driver doesn’t plan to park their car while you’re sitting the test. You see, the theory test centre does not provide parking spaces for customers. On top of that, the nearest car parks are a good 30+ minutes away.
The nearest parking option is Parkland Gateway, charging just 60p for 2 hours. The bad news is that this car park is a 40-minute walk away from the test centre, despite being the closest option. The bus is probably looking like an attractive alternative now!
Corby theory test centre is one of the new kids on the block, so there isn’t a wealth of data available when it comes to pass rates. From that which we can access from the last few years, though, the figures tend to sit ever so slightly above the national average.
Please be aware that pass rates don’t really indicate how well you are likely to do here—the theory test will be the same no matter where you take it.
Don’t underestimate the difficulty of the theory test! While it’s not something to worry too much about, this exam does require a certain amount of preparation. The questions are not as easy and straightforward as many learners assume. You will need to have a solid understanding of the Highway Code and know how to pass the hazard perception section of the test. Remember, you must earn a pass score on both parts of the test to earn an overall pass!
Thankfully, there are plenty of resources out there that will make studying for the theory test much easier. Check out the list below for some that we think are particularly useful.
Those travelling to Corby primarily for the theory test might want to stay in a local hotel the night before. Here are some options:
A great choice for anyone on a tight budget, Snooze Hotel is a 2-star establishment located in the centre of Corby, around a 6-minute drive from the test centre. Rooms are fairly basic but decorated in a way that feels clean and airy. Snooze sells itself as being small, simple and friendly, which is just the ticket when you’re only in town for a short stay!
Further down the road in the Rockingham area of Corby, you can find this convenient branch of the Best Western chain hotels. It sits in a scenic area of town, right next to Rockingham Castle, and you can get between here and the test centre in 9 minutes if you take a car. Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel and all rooms are finished to a high-quality standard.
Another nearby accommodation option is Holiday Inn Corby. In fact, you’ll find it a 13-minute drive down the road! Each room comes with luxury toiletries, a satellite television and free WiFi. You won’t be short of comfort, either—as well as a cosy bed you have access to a pillow menu to ensure you can get a good night’s sleep on your own terms!
Corby is so much more than a town with a theory test centre, you know. There are plenty of great bars, restaurants and pubs to check out too! Once your theory test is done and dusted, why not treat yourself to a visit to a top local establishment? We’ve listed some below.
Those that like a pub with a friendly village feel will enjoy a trip to the Shoulder of Mutton. To find it you just need to head a little way away from Corby, into the picturesque village of Weldon. The pub brews its own beer, and serves that alongside a wide range of local ales and wines from around the world. There are also home-cooked meals available, should you be feeling peckish!
Back in the centre of Corby and just up the road from the train station sits Paletto Lounge. This is a great choice if you don’t know exactly what you’re in the mood for, as they have a substantial menu of food and drinks. The decor is colourful and fun and the whole place has a buzzy, lively atmosphere. A great place to meet friends or make some new ones!
The Chequered Flag is an unpretentious chain pub serving up big portions and even bigger deals! Situated in the Rockingham area, you might want to take a car to get here, as it’s a good 1-hour walk from the test centre. You won’t be disappointed if you do! The staff are super friendly, the food is delicious and it’s an all-round good time.
Now that you have the full lowdown on Corby theory test centre, it’s time to get serious about kicking off your driving journey! Book yourself a test, get studying and earn that theory test pass certificate. Once that’s in the bag, you’ll be able to get stuck into the exciting side of learning to drive!
Yes, after the theory test comes the practical test. In order to prepare for this you need to get behind the wheel and master the skill of driving. We highly recommend taking lessons with a DVSA-approved instructor, as they will know how to transform you into a safe driver and explain exactly what is expected of you on test day.
It’s a good idea to get your practical test appointment booked in nice and early. Wait times for these tests can be extremely long! It’s worth noting, though, that if you book a course with PassMeFast, we’ll fast-track your test to get a date that is weeks ahead of what the DVSA can offer!
Failed your theory test? No need to feel bad—plenty of learners don’t manage to earn a pass on the first attempt. Get back to the books and book yourself another test as soon as possible. The main thing is to not give up! As long as you do enough preparation, there’s no reason you can’t pass the theory test on your next go.
