Arriving at Colchester Theory Test Centre

By public transport

Even if you’re not from Colchester, getting to the test centre on time doesn’t need to be a mission. Those travelling by train should get off at Colchester Town, which is the closest station. From here it will be an 11-minute walk to the theory test centre. If you’re arriving at Colchester’s central station, you should plan for a 25-minute walk.

Taking the bus instead? No problem. Get off at the Police Station bus stop and it’s just a hop, skip and a jump (or 1-minute walk) to your theory test.

To learn more about Colchester’s transport options, consult the Visit Colchester website.

By car

For those who prefer to travel by car, the journey should be fairly straightforward. The road the theory centre is on is just off the B1026. To (hopefully) skip any confusion, just type CO3 3DA into a sat nav and follow the instructions. It might help you to know that Wellington House sits right behind Colchester College, so if you find that you’re pretty much there!

Parking

Unless you’re getting a taxi, it’s likely you’ll be hoping to nab a parking spot at or near the test centre. Sadly, the test centre itself does not provide on-site parking. No need to be put off getting a lift, though, as there are plenty of parking options nearby.

You can try Butt Road car park (CO3 3DG) if you’re looking for both convenience and a reason to giggle. It’s less than 5 minutes from the test centre and charges £2.50 for 2 hours of parking. Alternatively, there’s always St John’s car park (CO2 7HB), which is 8 minutes away from where you’ll be taking the test. Here, you’ll be charged a similarly reasonable £2.70 for 2 hours of parking.

Pass Rates by Year

Colchester theory test centre hasn’t been up and running for very long, so we don’t have a lot of data to provide. Nevertheless, the pass rates they do have sit above the national average, so if you’re the sort of person who cares about statistics, this should put your mind at ease. It’s still important to remember that the location you choose doesn’t really affect how well you do in the test. Results are all down to preparation and personal skill!

The George Hotel ★★★☆☆

This is a fantastic hotel steeped in local history. It was once a medieval coaching inn and the ancient cellars are still in good nick and well worth a look! Don’t worry, though—when it comes to the rooms, the decor is up to date and everything is fresh, clean and comfortable. You’ll find it a quick 12-minute walk from the test centre.

North Hill Hotel ★★★☆☆

North Hill Hotel is simple, sleek and stylish. Despite its very reasonable price tag, guests still get to enjoy top class service and a highly enjoyable stay. There are only 24 rooms available, so if this place tickles your fancy you’ll need to book in early!

Blue Ivy Hotel ★★★★☆

Did you know that Beyoncé and Jay Z’s daughter is in the boutique hotel business? Neither did we, but we’re very impressed with her work. The whole place is decked out in luxury vintage decor and during your stay you have access to free WiFi, a complimentary breakfast and staff on hand 24/7 to serve any of your needs. Trust us, you’ll be crazy in love with this place!

This is a super popular local spot that’s frequented by locals and visitors alike. The atmosphere is more party than peaceful and there’s plenty of fun to be had if you’re in the right mood. There’s food on offer no matter the time of day—just be sure to beat the lunchtime rush if you don’t want to be waiting too long to satisfy your stomach!
