A Bit More About Elgin

For centuries, Elgin was seperated from Scotland due to being surrounded by the fast-flowing and formerly uncrossable Rivers Spey and Findhorn. Luckily for us, the locals eventually bridged the rivers and introduced their amazing whisky and shortbread to the rest of the country. Nice one, Elgin!

Elgin Test Pass Rates

We love a good pass rate and Elgin isn’t doing too badly at all! 48% is the national average and Elgin often has pass rates above that. Things seem to be getting slightly harder, so you might want to take your test sooner rather than later.

What To Expect On The Day

Once you’ve got the theory test out of the way and are driving to test standard, it’s time for the moment of truth — the practical driving test. All driving tests are formatted in the same way, so get prepared by following our guide. Most importantly, don’t forget your provisional licence! You won’t be allowed to sit the test without it.

Here’s everything to expect on the test day:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

The examiner will tell you whether you’ve passed or failed, taking you through the feedback sheet which details your minors and majors.
