How To Get There

A Bit More About Huntly

Huntly test centre presents examiners and learners with a variety of road and traffic conditions in the Huntly area. The driving test will start in the middle of the town centre. The roads are fairly narrow here, so it can get a bit hectic during rush hour. As you move away from the town centre, you’ll likely be guided onto the A96 or A97—there are a couple of tricky roundabouts on these A roads, so keep your wits about you!

The examiner will either get you to demonstrate one of the manoeuvres at a local car park, or they’ll guide you towards a quiet area, like Keith, so that you won’t get too many interruptions.

What To Expect On The Day

After spending hours perfecting the art of clutch control and practising until you can parallel park blindfolded, you’re finally ready to tackle the driving test. Not feeling 100%? Just think about how far you’ve come since you took the first step on your learning journey! Trust us—you’re ready to do this.

If you’ve got the memory of a goldfish, triple-check that you have your provisional before you leave your home or workplace. The examiner needs to check it to confirm your identity and will not let you take your test otherwise. You’ll then need to get to Huntly ten minutes before your test begins.

Once it starts, it will follow this format:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination
