How To Get There

Not far from the bustling centre of Mill Hill, the test centre can be found next to Mill Hill Park. With its close proximity to the M1 and A5109, it's easily accessible for learners in North London. If you've not had the chance to visit the test centre yet, just use these directions. Due to limited parking, we recommend you practice bay parking either at weekends—when tests are very rare—or at another car park, to avoid getting in the way of candidates heading out or coming back from their tests.

A Bit More About Mill Hill

There's certainly enough variety when it comes to road types and conditions around Mill Hill test centre. Candidates will have their speed awareness and hazard perception skills put to the test on the move from the relatively quiet area around the centre to the busier A routes closer to the centre of Mill Hill. For more general information about Mill Hill—including public transport and local weather—check out these resources:

Mill Hill Test Route

Although you won't be able to get your hands on your exact test route, you can get a pretty good idea of what might crop up by looking at videos of Mill Hill test routes on YouTube. Alternatively, you can download our sample Mill Hill driving test routes. If you're learning to drive with a local ADI, you won't have to worry about this too much. This means that, with any luck, you'll recognise most of the roads on your practical test.

Mill Hill Test Pass Rates

Curious as to how other people perform on their driving tests? The DVSA frequently releases pass rate statistics, so we can give you a good idea. For starters, those in the UK have a 45.9% chance of passing their driving test. This average decreases to 40.8% for those located in London. As for those taking their test at Mill Hill test centre, feast your eyes on the pass rates from the last five years...

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
43.1% 41.4% 43.2% 43.1% 47.5%

For a test centre in Greater London, Mill Hill’s pass rates are pretty darn decent. They’re higher than London’s average, and they’re not that much lower than the national average. Before you convince yourself that the odds aren’t in your favour, take a breather—the result of your test is based off of your personal ability, not a pass rate average.

What To Expect On The Day

Before you know it, you’ll be at the end of your driving lessons and your driving test will be round the corner. Still not feeling 100% certain of your abilities? Read up on our guide to tackling test day nerves. On the day of your test, get there 10 minutes early and don't forget your provisional. The practical will be structured as follows:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

The test route will eventually lead you back to Mill Hill test centre, at which point the examiner will ask you to park and turn off the ignition. They will then give you their final verdict. Regardless of the outcome, you'll receive a feedback sheet and verbal feedback. Candidates who pass will also be handed a test pass certificate.
