A Bit More About Newton Stewart

Though it might not seem like it, the location of Newton Stewart test centre was carefully chosen by the DVSA to ensure that it offered examiners the best range of road types, traffic conditions and speed systems for the driving test. So, if you’re taking your practical here, you’ll certainly have your mettle put to the test!

For starters, the examiner will take you around the town centre to see how well you deal with heavy road traffic and pedestrians. They’ll be keeping a close eye on your observations, clutch control and overall speed awareness. Depending on the route, they might decide to take you towards the roads near Creebridge for your driving test manoeuvre and, potentially, an emergency stop.

The nearby A75 might feature in your test route, which means you could end up facing a range of tricky roundabouts. Alternatively, the examiner might get you to drive down the A714 towards Wigtown, before looping back around on the B733 towards Spitall, and back again to Newton Stewart. Obviously, there’s no way of knowing for sure, but as long as you take lessons with a DVSA-approved instructor, you should be prepared for anything.
