By public transport
Let’s start with how you get to the test centre. You should have no problem travelling to the test centre by public transport. From Saxmundham train station it’s only an 11-minute walk away. Alternatively, you can get the bus and disembark at either the Middle School or Saxon Road bus stop. Both stops are roughly a 3-minute stroll from the theory test centre.

You might also have the option of arriving at your theory test by car. If someone you know is driving you, or you get a taxi, let them know that the postcode of your destination is IP17 1DZ.
Beware, though, because some map software may have trouble pinpointing exactly where the theory test centre is located. It’s tucked away at the back of a sort of cul-de-sac section of Seaman Avenue, which can be quite hard to see from the main road.
Look for the blue and white sign reading Saxmundham Fromus Centre on the corner and turn down that road. The test location will be on your right.
You may see a car park right outside the test centre but, sadly, this is not for visitor use. On the plus side, there are some extremely affordable options nearby.
Saxmundham Station car park (IP17 1BW), for instance, provides you with 2 hours of parking completely free of charge! It will take you around 14 minutes to walk from here to the test centre. If you don’t manage to find a space there, try the Market Place car park (IP17 1AG) instead. It’s a bit of a lengthy 17-minute walk from the test centre, but it’ll only cost you £1 for 2 hours of parking.
It looks like since its opening the pass rates at Saxmundham theory test centre have come on leaps and bounds! What you need to keep in mind, though, is that this test centre serves a small population. The figures are therefore based on a smaller pool of learners, which can lead to more fluctuation in the stats.
At the end of the day, learners don’t need to worry about pass rates anyway, as they have very little to no impact on how well you as an individual are likely to do on the test.
It’s really important that you revise for the theory test. That means understanding the format of the test and revising all of the relevant material so that you are able to correctly answer the multiple choice questions and ace the hazard perception test. After all, you need a pass mark on both sections to earn that certificate!

This is one of the few accommodation options situated in Saxmundham itself but it doesn’t disappoint. It calls itself a restaurant with rooms, and you really do get the best of both worlds! It boasts 10 cosy rooms that will make you feel right at home. Keep in mind that the bathrooms may be shared. Feeling peckish? Pop downstairs to the restaurant!
Take a 10-minute drive east into nearby Theberton and you can find this lovely little country inn. The Lion is a family-run establishment with detached chalets that all come with ensuite showers and an outside patio. Any time you fancy some company or refreshments, simply head out of your room and into the Inn!
If you really want to treat yourself, it’s worth grabbing a taxi and travelling 16 minutes to the coast to find the gorgeous White Lion Hotel in Aldeburgh. Done with the theory test? Whether you’re celebrating or commiserating, a visit to a local bar or pub (we’re not going to lie, it’s mostly pubs in Saxmundham) could be just what you need. Here are some places (*pubs) that are worth a look:
This friendly local pub is just a 9-minute walk from the test centre and is a great spot to relax and unwind after your test. There are some classic pub drinks and snacks on off, and if you show up on the right day you might even be able to take part in the meat draw! Ask a local to explain it to you.
Another great pub in the Saxmundham area is The Poachers Pocket. You may want to grab a taxi to this one, as it’s about a 30-minute walk from the test centre. If you like cosy village pubs, though, it’ll be worth it! This place has lots of charm and an extensive menu that also includes some great vegetarian options.
What’s better than a regular pub? A pub that also doubles as a Chinese takeaway. Bravo, Saxmundham! Whether you fancy a slug of beer or a spring roll, this place has you covered. It’s only a 13-minute walk from the theory test centre, so get a move on and work up an appetite!
That just about covers everything you need to know about the Saxmundham theory test centre. It’s a solid option if you prefer a small town rather than city centre location.
