By car

Those planning to get to the test centre by car should find the journey fairly straightforward. The simplest approach is to type WA10 1QU into a sat nav. Unless you already live within the town, it’s likely you’ll end up on the A58. The test centre is very close to the town hall, so it should be easy to spot once you find yourself in the heart of St Helens.

Parking

As tends to be the norm with theory test centres, no on-site parking is available. There are a few affordable options very close by, though. Try to grab a spot at the Hardshaw Shopping Centre car park, where you’ll be charged £1.50 for 2 hours of parking. It’s only a 3-minute walk from the test centre. It’s also worth trying the Tolver Street car park, which is 6 minutes away and charges £1.20 for 2 hours.

Pass Rates by Year

The pass rate for the St Helens theory test centre have been declining over the past few years. That all changed in 2017/18, though—with a slight rise taking them just above the national average. After another dip, they tilted back above the national average in 2019-20. Of course, none of this really has any impact on your chance of passing the test. It’ll be the same wherever you take it.
