Like a few of its counterparts in the Highland area, the Portree theory test centre is in a mobile testing vehicle. The specific location of the vehicle is not made completely clear by the DVSA. Part of this is down to the fact that Viewfield Road boasts both an Aros and Arof centre. The DVSA has used the name of one but the postcode of the other in the address they provide. Not super helpful.
As the Arof Centre is permanently closed, we’re going to assume it’s the Aros centre that you want. Thankfully, it’s only a 7-minute walk between both locations, so it’s not the end of the world if you get them mixed up on test day.
With that disclaimer out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff—our complete guide to the Portree theory test centre!

At first glance you might jump to the conclusion that Portree is the ideal place to take your test because the pass rates have been rocketing up over the past couple of years. What you need to remember, though, is that this is a test centre serving a small community. As a result, the statistics are based on a very small pool of data.
Furthermore, pass rates don’t really mean much to individual learners. How you fare on the test depends on how much effort you put in!

The effort you need to put into the theory test takes the form of revision. Sorry to be the bearers of bad news, but the theory test does require you to get your head down and do some studying. It is not a case of answering a few simple driving questions.
You have to pass both a multiple choice section and a hazard perception test. To reach a level where you can pass this test, you need to get to grips with some pretty complex driving knowledge. Start with The Highway Code and work up from there.
Luckily there are plenty of resources out there that can make revising for the theory test a breeze! Here are a few that PassMeFast has tried and tested with success:
Maybe the lack of parking options has put you off this test centre, or maybe you just fancy an excuse to leave the village. Whatever is making you question whether Portree is the ideal test centre for you, it always pays to consider a few options before settling on a final choice.
Other nearby theory test centres are located in Kyle of Lochalsh and Gairloch.
