How To Get There

Based in the centre of Lower Gornal, around 35 minutes from Birmingham, Lower Gornal test centre is easy to get to for all local learners—particularly with the close vicinity of the B4175 and A459. What To Expect On The Day

Congrats! You’re finally ready to take your practical test—pretty exciting, huh? You’ve only got one last hurdle to get over, and then you’re a fully qualified driver! No matter what time your test is at, you need to get to Lower Gornal 10 minutes early—don't forget your provisional! Your test will proceed with: 

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

Once you’ve parked back up at Lower Gornal test centre, you’ll find out how you got on in your test. The examiner will show you which areas you accumulated faults in with a feedback sheet. If you're successful, you'll get your hands on a test pass certificate.
