Fortunately, you can look at videos of Coventry test routes on YouTube or download our sample Coventry driving test routes to get a rough idea of which roads might crop up. If you're taking lessons with an ADI, they'll also get you to work on your new driving skills on the roads most likely to show up on your test—like the A444.

Your test will proceed with:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

Once you get back to Coventry test centre, you’ll be asked to park the car in one of the bays. The examiner will then give you your result and run through any faults you made using a feedback sheet. If you do pass, you'll receive a test pass certificate. You'll also be asked if you'd like to send off for your new licence then and there.
