What To Expect On The Day

After what seems like years, struggling with clutch control and crying over reversing into a bay, you’re finally ready to take your driving test. Give yourself a pat on the back—regardless of how your test turns out, you’ve come a long way from the learner you were when you first started your driving journey.

On the day of your test, try to leave early and get to Lanark ten minutes before your test starts. You’ll need this time to park the car, meet your examiner and sign the form that they give you. During this time, the examiner will ask to see your provisional, so make sure you remember it!

Your practical test will then consist of:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination
