How To Get There

If you’re planning to take a look at Paisley test centre and its surrounding area before your instructor takes you there on a lesson, be sure to use these directions with a sat nav. (That is, unless your supervisor is familiar with the area—in which case, get them to give you verbal directions so you can get some practise in!)

A Bit More About Paisley

As with other test centres in the UK, Paisley is surrounded by a wide variety of road types. There are countless roundabouts scattered around the local area (so you’ll want to make sure you’re confident with them beforehand), along with busy A roads like the A737 and quiet roads around areas like Penilee.

If you’re slightly fed up with learning about the roads around Paisley, why not fill your head with more general information? Feast your eyes on these resources:

What To Expect On The Day

Worried about your big day? Take a deep breath and relax. As terrifying as the test might seem, it’s really not that different from a regular driving lesson. All you’ve got to do is follow a test route and show off your new skills!

To make sure you’re actually able to take the test, you’ll need to get to Paisley in a timely fashion—the DVSA recommends learners get to their chosen test centre ten minutes before their appointment. You’ll also need to have your provisional handy, as the examiner will ask to see it prior to your test starting.

Your driving test will then consist of:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination
