How To Get There

A Bit More About Brecon

Your driving test route will begin with your driving examiner guiding you around the town of Brecon. The area is chock full of compact, residential roads, so you’ll want to pay attention to your road positioning, especially when navigating around parked vehicles and meeting oncoming traffic. There are a couple of local schools, like Brecon High School, so be aware that there will be changes to the speed limit as you progress through the route.

As you’re probably aware, you’ll have to demonstrate one of the driving test manoeuvres during the test. Where you do this will depend on which manoeuvre you’re asked to demonstrate, and where the test route takes you. The examiner might pick a local car park or one of the residential roads around Llanfaes.

Eventually, the pace will start to pick up as the examiner guides you onto one of the local A roads. You might end up on the A470 towards an area like T’air Bull, or on the A40 to Talybont-on-Usk or Sennybridge.

Brecon Test Pass Rates

As a leading driving school in the UK, we keep our eyes peeled for the DVSA’s latest statistics, so we can share them with our learners. After all, what better way is there to figure out how difficult the driving test might be, than to look at driving test pass rates?

The current national average stands at 45.9%, which tells us that though the driving test is challenging, it’s not completely impossible. Learners biting the bullet at Brecon test centre, however, have performed well above this average over the last five years, as you can see below...

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
65.6% 63.5% 63.1% 61.1% 61.6%

What To Expect On The Day

Your learning journey is almost over and it’s now time for you to put your mettle to the test. As nerve-wracking as this might feel, just remember that you’ve come a long way from the beginner who didn’t know the clutch pedal from the accelerator. If that doesn’t do the trick, try out top tips to help you relax before the driving test.

To avoid having your test cancelled, you’ll want to check that you have your provisional before you leave. The examiner needs to check this to confirm your identity. Additionally, you’ll need to get to Brecon test centre ten minutes early so that you have enough time to park up, meet the examiner and sign a form.

Once that’s sorted, your test will proceed with:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

Improve Your Chances With PassMeFast

Did you know that one of the reasons why it takes learners so long to get their full licence is because of long test waiting times? At some test centres, learners could be waiting up to three months to take their practical! If you end up finishing your lessons well before this, you risk forgetting half of what you learned by the time your test date arrives!

Enter: PassMeFast. When you book onto one of our courses, we get our fast-tracking department to find you a test date (often months ahead of standard waiting times) that matches your availability and preferences. We’ll then match you up with a local ADI who will help you to fit your lessons in around your schedule. Depending on how intensively you’d like to learn (with lessons in two to five hour blocks), you could earn your pink licence in mere weeks!
