A Bit More About Hexham

Though you might not think it at a glance, Hexham test centre is surrounded by a wide range of road and traffic conditions. In fact, it’s pretty ideal for examiners, as it gives them plenty of variety to throw at you during the driving test.

For starters, the roads around the test centre itself are bound to get busy during rush hour, so your examiner will have plenty of opportunities to monitor your clutch control and ability to navigate around parked vehicles. There are a number of local car parks and residential roads nearby as well, so it’s likely that you’ll have to demonstrate one of the manoeuvres close to the town centre. It won’t all be slow, though, as the vicinity of local A roads like the A68 and A69 means that they’ll most likely feature on your test.

What To Expect On The Day

After working hard under the watchful eye of your driving instructor, you’ve finally mastered all of the driving skills needed to pass the driving test. Go you! You’ve only got one hurdle to overcome before you can hold that pink licence: the driving test!

Before you leave your home or workplace on the day of your test, you’ll need to check that you have your provisional. The examiner will ask to see this to confirm your identity, so you won’t be able to proceed without it. You and your instructor will then get to Hexham test centre around 10 minutes before your test starts.

Once you’ve signed a declaration form, the examiner will begin your test. It will consist of:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination
