A Bit More About Northallerton

Located near the Harrogate area,  Northallerton boasts a humble pass rate and a variety of rural road features. When driving around the area, take care to pay attention to any road features that stand out, e.g., busy A routes like the A167 and A168, which will no doubt feature on your test route. Not sure what else you might need to know? Check out a few useful links below:

Northallerton Test Route

The DVSA doesn’t publish test routes anymore, but that doesn’t mean you have to worry! Most routes tend to incorporate the same types of road features. For example, examiners like to use a nice mix of both urban and rural roads. The key here is to keep an eye on your speed as you’ll be moving between different speed limits and traffic systems. As long as you practice, you should be fully prepared for whatever comes your way.

What To Expect On The Day

By the time you’ve finished your course, you should be more than familiar with Northallerton test centre and the nearby vicinity. Now all you need to do on the day of your practical is:

  • Get there 10 minutes early
  • Bring your provisional licence

The practical will take approximately 40 minutes—you’ll usually be dropped off and picked up by your instructor. Things will start off easy enough with an eyesight test before progressing onto the “show me, tell me” questions. One will be asked before you start driving and the other whilst driving, e.g., “How would you switch on the rear fog light?”. The independent section will then follow, lasting 20 minutes. In most cases, you’ll be asked to follow directions using a sat nav. You might, however, be one of the 1 in 5 candidates who will be asked to follow traffic signs instead. The following manoeuvres will crop up on your test:

  • Parallel parking
  • Bay parking
  • Pulling up on the right

You’ll get the results for your practical immediately. If you pass, you get a test pass certificate and the option to send off for your new licence. If you fail, you’ll receive feedback which will help you when you take your test again.
