What To Expect On The Day

So, you’re ready to take your test. Congratulations! You’re one hurdle away from becoming a fully qualified driver!

To avoid having to cancel your test, make sure that you check you’ve got your provisional before you leave. You will not be able to take the test without it. You’ll also need to get to Skegness test centre 10 minutes before your test starts. This gives you time to park and meet your examiner. Once that’s out of the way, your test will follow this basic structure:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination
