What If I Can't Go To Grantham Somerby?

If you don’t want to take your practical at Grantham Somerby test centre anymore, or you’re on the lookout for a backup option to get your hands on an earlier test date, here are your closest alternatives:

What To Expect On The Day

No matter where you take your practical, the overall format will be the same. You’ll get to your test centre 10 minutes before your appointment starts. Then, once you meet your examiner, you’ll need to show them your provisional. Your practical will then follow this structure:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination
