How To Get There

If you’re taking lessons with a local ADI, they’ll take you around Lairg and its surrounding area so that you can build up a familiarity with the roads likely to crop up on your test. If you can’t wait that long and fancy taking a peek around the area beforehand, just follow these directions.

A Bit More About Lairg

So, what exactly can you expect from your driving test in Lairg? Well, you’ll start out in the centre of the village. It’s rather small, so you won’t spend the majority of your test route here. The examiner will simply guide you around the hotels and local businesses to see how you interact with other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. This is where your clutch control and hazard awareness skills might come into play.

Given that there aren’t any larger towns in the vicinity of Lairg (that you would be able to reach during the test), it’s likely that you’ll end up demonstrating one of the driving test manoeuvres in the village.

Eventually, the examiner will guide you further afield using local A roads like the A839, towards Pittentrail, or the B836 towards Bonar Bridge. No matter where you end up, you’ll be dealing with winding, rural roads that will require you to carefully monitor your speed and pay close attention when approaching bends.

Lairg Test Pass Rates

If you’re taking your driving test in the UK, there’s a 45.9% chance that you’ll pass first time. Of course, there’s a range of factors that can affect this average, including, how old you are, which county you take the test in and whether you’re driving a manual or an automatic car.

If that wasn’t enough to juggle, your choice of test centre can also play a role. As you can see below, learners heading to Lairg seem to perform better than the national average. Bear in mind, of course, that though these statistics are interesting, they’re not a guarantee that you’ll pass—it’s your hard work that will increase your chances of success!

  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination
