How To Get There

If you’re learning with a local ADI, you don’t have to worry about finding Carmarthen test centre all by yourself—they’ll take you around the area during your lessons. If you’re heading there with a supervisor instead, however, and you’re a bit shaky with following road signs, just use these directions instead.

A Bit More About Carmarthen

During your driving test, the examiner will make use of the various road types and traffic conditions surrounding Carmarthen test centre, in order to find out if you’re truly ready to become a fully qualified driver.

Your test route will begin in the town centre, which is bustling with traffic due to the proximity of places like St Catherine’s Walk Shopping Centre and the like. You’ll want to pay close attention to your speed during this part of the test, as you’re bound to encounter pedestrians and cyclists around the roads near the University of Wales Trinity St David. Don’t forget to make frequent observations too, as the examiner will be watching you closely.

You’ll most likely be taken onto the nearby A40, which is chock full of challenging roundabouts, so we hope you’re confident with them. If not, get your instructor to take you on a few mock tests to get some practice in. Depending on the route chosen, you might be taken down the A40 towards an area like St Clears, or down the A48 towards Cross Hands—which might be where you demonstrate one of the manoeuvres.

What To Expect On The Day

If it’s your first time taking the driving test, you’re probably in full panic mode. Relax—it’s completely normal to worry about something that’s unfamiliar to you. Hopefully, we’ll be able to alleviate some of this stress by pulling back the curtain and revealing what the driving test actually entails. Trust us, it’s nowhere near as bad as you might think!

Before we show you what happens in the test, we’ve first got to walk you through what happens beforehand. For starters, you’ve got to get to Carmarthen test centre ten minutes before your test is due to start. After parking up, the examiner will ask to see your provisional so that they can confirm your identity, and then get you to sign a form.

Once that’s out of the way, your test will begin! No matter where you take it, it will follow this exact format:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination
