How To Get There

If it’s your first time heading to Dunoon test centre, and you’ve not got an instructor to guide you there, we’d recommend using these directions with a sat nav. The roads around the business park can get quite confusing, so the last thing you want is to end up taking a wrong turn!

A Bit More About Dunoon

Your test route will begin on Argyll Street, which is chock full of local businesses—from takeaways to clothing stores to off licences. What this means is that you’ll encounter a lot of road and foot traffic during your driving test. This could very well lead to a lot of stop-start traffic, which, though frustrating, may mean that your test route itself will end up slightly shorter.

There are plenty of tricky residential roads nearby, including those close to McArthur Street, which are perfect for putting your hazard perception skills to the test, as well as the driving test manoeuvre. Eventually, your examiner will guide you away from the Dunoon area, using the A885 or A815, which will take you towards areas like Ardnadam.

Dunoon Test Pass Rates

We don’t think we’ve ever met a learner driver who wasn’t interested in driving test pass rates! That’s why we spend a lot of our time analysing the DVSA’s latest figures and sharing our findings on the PassMeFast Blog. If you’ve got the time, you should head on over there to look at how factors like age, transmission type and county can affect your chances of passing.

If you’ve not got much time on your hands though, we’ll keep it short and sweet. Learner drivers in the UK have a 45.8% chance of passing their test. Learners at Dunoon seem to fare much better than the national average, though, as you can see in the table below...

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
62.6% 66.5% 59.5% 58.2% 61.2%

What If I Can't Go To Dunoon?

If you’re getting cold feet over taking your practical at Dunoon, or you’re simply mulling over your options, you could choose to head to another test centre entirely. If you don’t mind taking a ferry, your closest alternative is:

What To Expect On The Day

So your test day has finally arrived. Dun, dun, dun! Having second thoughts? There’s no way that your instructor would let you go in for the test if they didn’t think you were ready—it would be completely counterproductive to let you take it if you were going to crash and burn. So, keep your eye on the prize (your driving licence) and make your way through our relaxation tips before you take the test.

On the day of your test, simply get to Dunoon test centre with ten minutes to spare. After parking up, you’ll meet the examiner and show them your provisional licence. They will then start the test.

It will consist of:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

Improve Your Chances With PassMeFast

Believe it or not, traditional driving lessons aren’t the only way to get your hands on a pink licence in Dunoon. Intensive driving courses are just as useful, and, in most cases, are even more effective. This is because they give you longer to master key driving skills by extending the length of your lessons, and limiting the gaps between them.

Once you book onto a PassMeFast course, we’ll sort you out with a Dunoon instructor and book your test. You can then work with your instructor to decide the pace of your lessons—you could start out at two hours, or go all the way up to 5 hours! After sorting out your lesson plan, you can proceed onto the fun part: driving! You’ll make your way around the area of Dunoon, familiarising yourself with local quirks, challenges and test routes.
