A Bit More About Salford

Salford test centre is ideally located in the Salford area to provide a nice mix of road types and conditions—resting in the vicinity of a small residential area, the busy A5063 and the dreaded Regent Road. This variety ensures that examiners can truly test how competent learners are. For more general information about Salford itself, follow these links...

Salford Test Route

You won’t be able to find Salford’s test route, as the DVSA stopped publishing routes to prevent learners from practicing before exams. But don’t worry; most test routes incorporate the same kinds of difficult areas that examiners like to test candidates on. You’ll be expected, for example, to have an extensive knowledge of lane discipline and MSM routines to tackle fast-paced and residential areas. And, odds are, if you've taken a driving course with a local instructor, they'll have introduced you to most of the roads that will feature on your test route.

What To Expect On The Day

Once you’ve completed your lessons or course, you’ll finally be set to take your practical test. Relax—you should be more than prepared for whatever comes up on your test. All that’s left for you to do on the day is get to your chosen centre 10 minutes early, with your provisional licence. The test will then follow this format:

  • An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
  • Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
  • Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

Upon getting back to Salford test centre, you’ll be told your results. Regardless of the outcome, you'll be taken through a feedback sheet which will list any faults you made during the practical. If you're successful, you'll get your test pass certificate and have your new licence sent off for.
